Hi guys. I spotted this Gold CCC at a local fair last week, bought it then took it back after another dealer said that the finish wasn't right. It looks like a type 1.3.2 from Tom's book and it had a very shiny (burnished?) Gold finish on. Did I miss out on a bargain or is this a refinished Silver?

Hi Porsche,
Pics are really dark, making it hard to judge the finish. At first glace I would say its a bronze grade, but something doesn't sit right with me on the entire badge. That pin is DEFINATELY bogus. So, it is either a replacement or the entire badge is a fake. Too dark to be sure, but the pin looks like the rest of the finish and doesn't look like a replacment, so I would put my money on a well made Reproduction. In either case, you were right to return it. Plenty of other nice original AGMuKs out there for you to buy.

Tom,
thanks. The pin looked OK to me, just going by the photo's in your book, but I'll have another look. It did have the 'wonky' 'U' as the makers mark and the marking on the catch. The detail was good and the badge itself felt good. When I bought it and had a closer look at the finish with a German dealer who 'knows' Nahkampfspange he said "The finish isn't German" and that's the main reason I took it back. Colour and tone are always difficult to define, but it was a very orange Gold and shiny. (The badge was also too cheap)

No, no, the pin is VERY different from originals. Compare its shape to the fake shown on page 286. Its exactly like it, and very different from original "full banjo style pins".
