The Checoslovakian ligt tank 38t was used by the wehrmacht in large numbers.
It was the basis for the succesfull marder panzerjäger series.
The Hetzer was the last of these types. (The very nice scalemodel in this thread shows one with the automated MG-mount.)

So it was a fullbred tankhunter wich evolved from a tank with 37mm gun (wich was sufficient in the 1940 campaign),
Do not confuse them with propelled artillery like the wespe.

      Let me refrase that :
The Hetzer is a fullbred tankhunter.
The marder series were an improvised short term solution, albeit a succesfull one.

My point was aimed at the crews that crewed them, not chassis type and gun. Were the Hetzer crews panzer corps? I was under the impression that they were not.

Here a photo from the soldier I mentioned. He was a Panzerjäger as seen for the "P" in his shoulder straps and wore a field gray wrapper with pink waffenfarbe in his shoulder straps and collar patches (that are black backed) with silver cord around the collar. So we can say that Hetzer crews were Panzerjäger and normally wore field gray wrappers, maybe we can see some of them wearing black uniforms, but per regulation they must wear grey ones.
