Yes, a soft casting of an original Souval made with a modern alloy.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

                I'd have been sucked in...

How did you know it was a fake?
As a newbie to collecting I would have bought it. I thought it looked to me like the one shown in Niemann's Price Guide # 3 on page 688 (back photo only).
Man, you really need to be up on you're stuff!

This is one of the "better" copies and is dangerous unless you have seen it before. Stewy mentioned the maker mark and hardware but these are in fact not too far off. The softness of the reverse is a good indicator.

The main point to look for on this one is the gap between swas and rifle. The majority of, if not all RS IABs do not have this gap

                    best regards
                    Graeme

I've got three Souval variants & none of mine have a cut-out between rifle & Swaz. Stewy

I personally wouldn't trust anything from Niemann

Thank you Stewy and Greame for pointing giveaway spots
Indeed this badge looks very convincing if you never had one a specially obverse,
reverse looked soft to me as well from the first time looking at it.
The only good thing about all this is dealer didnt get pisst off but actually thanked me for letting him know about it.

thanks again guys for saving my money and for the info.

                            kindest regards,

                            eddie
