    REGLUATIONS ON WEARING CLOTH BADGES

    Gentlemen:

It has been said on this forum that the wearing of cloth bullion war badges were permitted and then banned during the Third Reich period. I know little about cloth badges, but this would be as good a time as any to explore the factual known information on the origin, production and wear of cloth versions of Third Reich War Badges and decorations. Therefore, if anyone has information about these cloth badges, please come forward.

Just so that everyone is on the same page here, I believe Chris said that bullion badges were outlawed at some point in time.

Chris, did you mean all badges made from cloth, or just bullion varieties? Please clarify!

Accidentally offending people on the internet since 1997

      Chris:

You have left us all hanging with your assertion that the Germans stopped the use of bullion cloth badges at some point in WWII. Please answer our requests and supply the documentation that supports your assertion.

        Hi Bill,
Sorry, I have been packing and am literally on my way out the door.

        Luftwaffe-Verordnungsblatt, Berlin 18th of May 1942, page 697, paragraph 1255.

Órders from the R.d.L. and Ob.d.L, the making/distribution of embroidered badges was to cease.

Some sources say this was to save material and more importantly LABOUR, and was only for the duration of the war, some peoplethink its because Goering did not like Bullion (I tend to go with the first).
Photos show that those who had them stll wore them.

        All the best
        Chris
