It could be some sort of alloy mixture,BSW. badge is 43mm.x59 mm.only difference is weight.I have discovered another unmarked flak badge 45mm.x60mm.weight 31 grams heavy alloy Not a great difference my scale could be out. This is ref. Alan Beadle German combat badges. With all due respect how can you compare when there are known variants of this badge.

You can compare like styles. In theory the dies of the same style badge should be the same minus any enhancements from the die owners. The metal is not what one would expect for the set up/timeframe of manufacture so it will be problematic at best until someone with advanced knowledge (Marc, Detlev....) does a hands on inspection. Sometimes that is as good as it gets. Any potential buyer should consider that when making a purchase.pseudo-expert

All that can be said (and that I've said here) is that it is not a textbook badge. Buyers need to be comfortable with what they buy.
ps- your pics don't help.Last edited by Don Doering; 07-02-2009, 04:17 PM.pseudo-expert

Hi guys,
I don't think there can be much doubt that this is a post war reproduction. Detail looks weak and especially soft on the reverse edges. Also the fact that you have zink hardware on a non-zink badge is incorrect.
In my opinion, no new pics are needed, it is a reproduction and you should have no problem returning it to the seller if he is "well respected" as you say. If he doesn't agree with the forum, you can always mail it to Detlev and he can give you a "negative COA", he is regarded by most honest dealers as a good judge.
TomIf it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a littleNew Book - The German Close Combat Clasp of World War II

THIS BADGE RESEMBLES THE ONE I RE-POSTED RECENTLY THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BEING THAT ONE SIDE OF MY BIRDS WINGS ARE CUT AWAY FROM THE GUN BARREL, THE BADGE IS VERY CONVINCING HANDS ON AND SOLIDLY MADE.http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=364740

Hi guys - just back from my trip to the OPT. Anyway, we certainly would be helped if all sellers post good photos, that is sure. Just front/back is often all we need. In my book I cover all the known and accepted designs. I also look at some of the unknows. One problem we have, much as Phil covered in his PAB book, is that the Vienna designs are not well understood. They all follow an RS look but often the hardware or other aspects differ. I am not convinced this badge is bad - I would like to hold it. Nor am i convinced it is good - I don't like the hardware and measurements. Look, if the seller is pissed off with the WAF-discussion that is unfortunate. You want us to say thumbs up or thumbs down and its easy to tell and here is why. Well, that is not always the case. We are all still learning on these and that's what makes it a great hobby.
