      Great thread,

the Coastal Artillery badges which I can see in the photo are not "FLL" my guess is "L21 / F&B", they have their distinctive pin.

I remember years ago when I use to get stuff from A.Forman in England that he had a source in Germany who had a ton of unissued stuff which was the contents of a shop's stock which they had buried in the ground before the Russians got there. The items on the outside were in poor condition due to the elements & passage of time but the stuff in the middle was great and often excellent.

Wonder if it is the same shop hoard finally come to an end then again how many shops in Germany in 1945 hid or buried their stock not to mention also other items as well ?

      Really interesting, Chris

I wasn't able to hand pick my badge but I think I did pretty well. It came with the carton and the orange tissue.

reverse. Some slopping soldering just barely covered the number 3 but who cares!

                Hi,

There were also a limited number of S&L PABs in the horde. Many of these items were sold at the recent show in Germany (Kassel or Stuttgart, whichever was the most recent)

That sloppy soldering is typical of late 1944 come 1945 when they were increasingly having to use untrained workers from both Germany and forced labour from the greater reich. Such workers were skilled up quickly and their work was not always as attractive as it should be but it was functional.

This is a true late war badge made of monkey metal and heavily plated which produces a very attractive look to the obverse at least.

You see the same sort of plating on the late war U-Boot clasps and many of the flight bars also from that 44/ 45 period.

Also note the simple late war type wire pin. Another improvision.

                  Great looking badge, Chris
