    GAB Frank & Reif - value ?

    Hi
I have here a rare (?) GAB Frank & Reif with ~ 100 % silver finish remaining, but ... see

    Only the catch is left

Whats the current value for this GAB in this condition ?

    Hi Secter,

Always difficult to put a prise on such an item. Depends a lot on the motivation of the buyer. I just saw Detlev selling a beautifull silver ccc with hinge and pin broken of but still present. He asked €250 for the ccc. IMO thats about 50 to 60% of the normal value for a ccc in that condition.

In your case the hinge an pin aren't present so you should think in the region of 35 to 40% of the normal value that I would situate between €90 an €110 in this condition.

    Just my 2cent

I would buy that badge for 30.- EUR max.

Well for me more like $40.00 US and that would be just because I wanted to buy something. Too many intact examples of a common piece to spend more that that on.

ditto for me. I wouldnt spend more than $40 on it, and even then it would be an impluse buy. Even less if it was a generic non marked example of a GAB. I would rather have one with no finish left than one missing all or part of the hardware, but thats just me.

I agree with the above guys.

Whenever something is repaired or damaged, you probably cut out 90 percent of the potential market and that greatly hurts the value. If the piece has say a missing catch, but you know that this catch can be replaced professionaly then that will not hurt the value as much, but say you have a catch that is cast in, and that it is missing and you know that you can not repair such a catch, then that would greatly affect the value.

In researching the Forum I found what appears to be the exact twin of the badge posted in this thread - and one in my own collection. Please have a look.

Can I assume this to be a genuine Frank & Reif GA badge - albeit missing the pin and hinge?

                Thanks,
                John

Your pics are somehow distorted, but that is a genuiene badge, yes.

Thanks very much for the confirmation, Frank. Regarding my pics, must be the scanner.
                      Thanks, again, John
