    Numbered PAB differences?

    I have been looking closely at Numbered PAB differences. I see several differences on these and I was hoping one the advanced collectors could help me. The Tank looks a little different on some of the JFS unmarked PABs. I hope you can see it in the picture. Look at the left outer roadwheel one is clear one is mushed. Now look at the upper right sprocket wheel area line pattern on one but not on the other. Why? Both were given a thumbs up on the Fourm. Please give me your insight.

    Hi Dennis......

    ......interesting observation. Look also to the lower area of the hull in relation to the 3 logs between the treads.

        Hi Dennis,

        When you say "unmarked JFS", you are referring ONLY to those unmarked with the typical "oval" impression found around the catch, as on marked JFS examples, correct?

        Too many people call EVERY unmarked broad-pinned 25/50 PAB an "unmarked JFS". Personally I believe there was more than one maker of these. Imo the clarification needs to be made at the beginning of the discussion so that apples and apples are compared.

          I agree completely with Mike. The whole badge must be examined. To compare marked jfs with "unmarked jfs" is unproductive. We do not know for sure whether the "unmarked jfs" was really made by jfs or was made by another maker such as RK. Even if a comparison between two similar marked badges shows slight differences in the die this fact would not mean much as makers sometimes had different dies or modified dies. Of course, originality of one of these pieces is determined by the complete badge, to include the hardware and finish.

            I agree with all of you. So how to start? Start with known good marked JFS and find unmarked ones that have all the same comparable? Then move to ones that are just different from them?

              Hi Dennis, that would work. You might be interested in a thread at GCA where we discussed unmarked vs. marked jfs. If you do a search over there I am sure it would be easy to find.

                Thanks Jeff, I found it. Good info there but not much of a end conclusion. I see several different details on the obverse too. So the tanks themselfs were from different dies too?
