      Mike,
Seems they've pretty much got the obverse figured out. However, the reverse gives it away.

I wonder if this is a "hero" effort; the catch looks like some of his.

They're getting better for sure. The fakers are catching up. Worrying. Stewy

              Mike,
              Is this a casting?

                Leroy,

Believe this to be a very high-quality die-strike and magnetic pin, hinge, and catch construction.

                May have originated in Austria.

                  Thanks, Mike.

This is very frightening. Once you get the front correct on a die, it won't be long until the back is right, too.

                    Hi Mike,

With all due respect, but after looking at it over and over again, I can't see what's wrong with this badge exept for the catch that was replaced at one point. This is an original unmarked JFS.

@Chet, what gives it away on the reverse then?

Am I getting that old already??
                    Kind regards,
                    Giel

Would love to handle this badge, and from these pictures there's no way to tell for sure whether this is good or not.

My main question is, if a dealer is that clever, to get all the details there, use the right finish, the right hinge and pin, the right dimensions etc, why on earth would he screw that all up by putting on a catch like that? There's no logic in that!

I also noticed the cut outs between the feathers might not been cut out very well, but I would still accept it. The numbered box for example looks very promising to me as well, the digits are not completely straight, and they have developed the same patina as many JFS's I've seen and handled.

If anyone could get a hand on this particular badge, could you please give me a call?
                      Kind regards,
                      Giel
