    IAB in Silver.

    Gentlemen,

I picked this up at a local auction about a month ago. I think it is just beautiful. I was wondering if anyone can possibly help me with a maker on this item. As you may be able to tell from the picture it appears to be slightly hand vaulted. Any information on this badge is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jeremiah

Looks like a Freidrich Linden L/61 badge, unusually good finish remaining for this badge.

              Regards,

              Mark

I also think it is a FLL attributed hollow example.

This one is considered the "Late" version without the gap between the swazy and the rifle. The hinge is correct for a late hollow version.

The "earlier" hollow zinc version has a gap between the rifle and a different style hinge.

As for the catch, it resembles one that would be used on an earlier hollow version. It could also have been re-attached, it's hard for me to tell with these pictures.

                Best Regards, fischer

                  Hi Guys

The design is FCL, the vaulting at the eagle end is a very distinctive trademark for this maker.

Better pics would be helpful on determining the finish, the ones with flash are too bright and the dull ones are out of focus.

However I think the badge is a good one.

                  regards
                  Graeme

                    Hello

I see now the feature Graeme is referring to and it is an FCL.

Design wise IMO they are closely related and easily mixed up as my first comment proved.

                    Excuse any confusion.

                    Best regards, fischer

                      Hi Fischer

FCL and FLL are probably the most often confused IABs.

For me the best way to identify the FCL from the obverse are the following:-

Much wider and angled end to the rifle butt
The larger leaf between the rifle and sling
The bow at the bottom of the badge stretches out much more.

These key points work for me anyway

                      cheers
                      Graeme

                            Thanks Graeme...

I do see the design differences between the two makes as you describe.

                            Thanks for the follow up...

                            Best Regards, fischer
