I'm afraid I'm with Ludwig on this one. I've got many photo's of PVA's and one of my own and they all have 3 pins on the reverse. I've attached a copy of one of Kenny Andrews photo's (if that's OK Kenny) to show what I mean.

I have only seem them with 3 prongs as well, but there is just something about it that I like. Don't know why, just kinda do. Matt

Sorry, Not one for me either. The treads on the tank look to deep/wide something. I do not like the prongs as well.

If this was a vets estate, and he didnt collect ever after ww2, and brought it home ,and its sold because of death, id say its gotta be real. Just a different maker, and i wouldnt throw it out with the bath water. There is still lots we dont know regardless of what the authors of books on the subject know or say. Ive seen these bent back edge prongs on many insignia from eagles for hats, and skulls for panzer collar tabs etc, even ss skulls. So I would keep it regardless. Thru the years many an expert has been embarrassed to have to recant a negative opinion at someone elses expense who believed it, and got rid of the item(we all know stories to substantiate this fact)after new things pop uip with provenance. I like the details. Sorry to disagree. Did you inquire where the stuff came from for the sale? You could always call the auctioneer who handled the sale to ask him even though its over. It all looks original on the table shot to me. (y'all can disagree with me also). Thanks for showing the photos. What did the gorget go for.

And how would you prove this? Many, many vets picked up things years later. It doesn't conform to known originals so it will remain suspect at best until one shows up in a german veteran's grouping. And even then it will remain suspect to most.

I agree with Don that this needs to be considered. I know many vets who picked up their War trophies long after the War or someone in the family found some stuff at a flea market and took it to the Vet as a gift etc. . I get a couple calls a year where a family calls me and have a helmet or a dagger etc. along with photos of the Vet. The daggers and helmets turn out to be Collectors Armory etc.

Hello, Many thanks for everyone's input. One possiblity that comes to mind is this, since the tank badge and flight clasp were late war, then could it also be that the TDB is very late war ? At a time where maybe the Germans were trying to get rid of any little bit of cost or materials, ie. the backplate ? Anyway, this piece will stay in a box until maybe someday another one might surface. Thanks again for your help. Grant
