Uncommon award for a WSS soldier

Looking through one of my photoalbum, I noticed that this Danish WSS volunteer, was wearing the Wound Badge for those wounded during the Spanish Civil War.
Was the badge awarded to other than those, who had served in the civilwar?

Yes, the first type wound badge was awarded well into WW2. Not an uncommon sight, nice photo though!
