    Straight Close Combat Clasp

    Hello,

I have this well worn and unbent Close Combat Clasp in bronze.

Weren't they all supposed to be curved?

No maker marks, and the needle shaped pin is unknown to me.

Could this be a replacement pin, seeing as the badge was restored at some point? Note the catch and hinge were crudely repaired. Please sorry for the pics, they lost definition as I posted them on the net.

    Thanks for the help,
    Cesar.

Any ideas about who the maker of this example could be?

The pin has been replaced. It doesn't look like a period replacement. It looks like the catch was replaced as well. The badge, based on the low-res photo, looks OK. Hopefully, more seasoned assessments will come in!

        Pin and catch

        Thanks for the reply,

Yes, I forgot to mention the catch was also replaced.
Here is a closer view of the reverse of badge. I hope it comes out better this time.

My opinion of this badge is that its a post war Rudolf Souval badge. The detail on the front is that of a wartime Rudolf Souval. The crimping of the backplate is similar to the wartime badges, but not exactly correct. Souval resused the original dies starting in the 60s but finished them a little differently, hence the difference in backplate crimping and very sloppy attachment of the hinge and catch. The pin is consistant with the Souval post war badges.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
