Hi CVRC,
That a difficult one. At first I thought it had to be a copy because of the crude way it is stamped. But than I remembered that I saw that strange looking eagles head before in this thread
http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ad.php?t=26323
Since this is quit a rare IAB I find it difficult to believe that the fakers would have used this badges as an example. So I would tend towards very worn but original. Since I'm not able to handle it I'm not 100% sure. The waste material between the lower leaves and the gun keeps bothering me.

The one posted by Lorenzo in the thread you mentioned, Philippe, is also of the first "luxury" variant.
Here is an intermediate one, also in zinc. Setup is different again, badge is quite crudely stamped but still has a very nice finish. Swaz and rifle are not really seperated, there is just a very thin cut between swaz and rifle.
Note excess material between leaves and rifle butt much like on the example that strated this thread.

It is very worn, so some details are missing, but I think it is ok.
Some of your scans have a strange appearance, obviously the colour information gets lost on your scanner whenever you scan silvery/grey objects.
You catch also looks a bit weird, maybe repaired/replaced.

Dear Frank,
Very interesting, I didn't know that these badges existed in so many variants but as you stated there is a clear evolution visible in the way they were produced.
For me this evolution of badges produced by one maker is one of the most facinating aspects of this hobby. For some awards there is only one accepted variant but for many of the unmarked badges every time you think you have seen it all you can be sure that yet another variant is waiting arround the corner.
