    Shoting award

    Hello,

Is this a Reichwehr shooting award? If yes, how was the system in contrast to the lanyard of the Wehrmacht.

For marksmanship awards, the Reichswehr utilized an arrangement of "no less than 24 grades, each grade differentiated by a system of stripes of braid of various width, and positioned on the lower left sleeve... (Uniforms & Traditions of the German Army 1933-1945, Vol 2, Angolia & Schlicht).

The small chevron, below the stripes shown in your image, denotes a sharpshooter.

The Reichswehr marksmanship award method carried over into the Third Reich before being replaced by a new system consisting of lanyards in 12 grades in June 1936.

These subjects contain a lot more detail but this is a general overview.

Neil Stewart and I have completed a book, BULLS-EYE: German Army Marksmanship Lanyards and Tank Destruction Badges, which is now at the printers. The book discusses lanyards in great detail.
