    Legion condor badge in bullion...

I acquired this in the late 70s. It belonged to a condor collector, whos collection was stolen, in cal, and this was the only thing they didnt get. Evidently it was in a reiker that wasnt pinned, and during the robbery(he wasnt home) he claimed it must have fell out if the mount, and later found under the couch.

Although i have seen another in a private collection , very similair, i dont know if they ever have documented an actual bullion version ever being worn during ww2 or after the spanish civil war. . these are the only shots i have right now, and taken years ago. I allowed RJB to photo it for his condor legion book , but ..he never used the photos , and i assume it might be because of possible proof of any ever being worn. Then again , i dont know for sure. Hope someone knows something... either way. Some of the strings dividing the bones have broken, but are still visible on the broken string side.

Perhaps the burglars knew it wasn´t original?

I agree, is most likely true.... I got a chuckle at that comment, .... ..as ive still never seen any bullion versions in any photos. Anyone else agree this is a fantasy piece? Both i have seen had the same brown paper backing.. and looke like made by the same person or place ..sorry the photo is truncated and i couldnt show the ribbon at the bottom. thanks L.

I also think it is a fantasy piece.

I don't see why it is not possible that these could have been made, perhaps privately. I am not commenting on this specific one as I am not familiar with cloth items at all, but the concept does not seem out of the question.

I guess anything is possible. I will try to revisit this thread , and show the whole badge details for a complete image asap.

I think roger bender said he couldnt verify it way back when he did his cordor Legion book. I would say in defense of the negative comments, even as much as i would like to determine the truth, that photographic evidence from the period if ever found would be the best proof.

If they were an actual made piece , privately purchased as stated as a possible senario by sal, id say it would most likely have been worn on a walking out uniform , or for dress , I would assume, rather than on a combat wrapper.

The details on this one were much finer, than the other one i saw another collector had , but Im told they did bullion type badges by hand, so no 2 would be exact as in a case where machine work was done for mass manufacturing.

By these pictures I don´t know if there is some white thread in the item. If there is, try the black light test. It could help.
I like the taste of the badge but I had never seen one like this before, unfortunately.
