              Hi Jens,

this is a so called CupAl badge, it is made of copper plated aluminum. It should be very light. The value is a little higher than the "regular" tombak pieces.

              Regards,

              Daniel

                Hi Daniel,

thanks alot for the information. I just wondered why the catch has the small cicular plate attached to the badge. I only saw this on zinc badges.

                many thanks Jens

                    Hi Jens,

I agree with Scott & Daniel, it is a cupal badge. Usually cupal badges will have hinge and catchplates, which is indeed odd since the copper layer should have provided a good surface area to solder too. Hower, since cupal sometimes only has copper on the front surface of the aluminum (not on the back too), or if the back copper layer was very thin, its possible the produced just wanted to be safe and always used plates for the hinge and catch since that was needed for soldering to aluminum.

                    Tom
If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Yeah, I like the slight wear on the front, and how the back shows the Cupal. I like her
