Nice paB Group Find

Unfortunately the catch is missing on PAB,,,Trying to research the group, apparently he was in an artillery abteilung so Iam guessing PAB in silver he might have been in a STUG?

If he was part of a StuG crew, I think he would have had a GAB instead of a PAB?

But either way really nice group!

iam trying to figure it out lol, I always thought STUG would get a bronze??

Ok so I just did some looking. In general I think stug crew would be awarded the GAB quoting G. Williamson's "World War II German Battle Insigna" from the Osprey Publishing series:

The General Assault Badge - Allgemeines Sturmabzeichen
The General Assault Badge was instituted on 1 June 1940, and was intended to reward those soldiers serving in units which did not qualify for the Infantry Assault or Tank Battle Badges. It is sometimes referred to in Soldbuch entries as the Pionier Sturmabzeichen, although it was not intended specifically for combat engineers - indeed, original wartime references specifically mention assault artillery as one of the intended recipient branches.

But in the same book it says that the Bronze PAB was for armored vehicles other than tanks. So perhaps it would depend on the unit and the time period? I also read on WAF that while GAB's were the norm earlier in the war that later in the war the PAB became available to the Assault Gun crews (1944 was the year given). So I guess it is anyones guess at this point.

If he would have been StuG he would like posted, most likely have been awarded the GAB, as the StuG was part of artillery.

i would have thought if he was in a stug, he would have been awarded a bronze pab, silver was for tank crews only i think, but great grouping anyway, and great condition too!!
