    Foreign Vol SS Badge

Here is a badge a friend of mine has in his collection and he is interested in more info on it. I think it's most likely Dutch SS, but not sure. The badge is very well made in 4 seperate piece(wreath, sword, and the 2 "S"). Badge is reverse impressed with a number,SS 529. Any info on this piece would be very helpful.
    Thanks
    Martin K

I asked a friend of mine who collects dutch items. He says that he sees them sometimes at auctions and doubt if the badge ever really existed. Maybe they are fantasy pieces.

                Sportteken (sportsbadge)

                Hi Volkbert.

This is no fantasy piece. According to the "weihnachtsbrief" Kameradschaft SS-Panzer-Regiment 5 Wiking 1995, this was awarded in Avegoor in Holland to the Germanic SS. There is 3 "Stufen" Bronce 20-30 years, Silver 30-42 and gold for over 42 years of age. First time of issue is uncertain but likely sommer 41

This piece was muted but was very unlikley to have been awarded. The award in Avegoor in Holland to the Germanic SS, was the Germanic Lesterrunnen.

WARLORD: The Germanic Leisterunen were indeed awarded at Avegoor but for the first time in September 1944. So that is an other award than Jens mentions because that is awarded in 1941 for the first time. Besides the Germanic Leisterunen were not made in Gold class.

                      Germanische Leistungsrune

The germanische Leistungsrune was intriduced in 15/8 1943 It was not awarded before 1 feb 1944 in Avegoor. Again in Høveltegaard in Denmark 2 june 1944 (memorialday CF von Schalburg) and again in Norway in 16/8 1944

                        Sportsteken

One has to remember that this was most probably the equilibrium to WA sportsbadge. ( J have one in silver ) This badge was first awarded it sep. 1941. After that most dutch able manpower was swallowed into the ranks of the Legion and Waffen SS.

Here's the SS announcement of the award in its Dutch SS press, June 1941.

I used to have an original of the SS-Sportteeken (the silver one). Nice badge. Unfortunately I also believe the one pictured is a copy.

                            Regards,

                              Thanks Steve

And the badge one right in that paper, is the badge for the disabled persons.

J have a photo of a danish soldier which most certain achieved the Leistungsrune in Prag. He later went MIA at Stuhlweissenburg.
