Assmann PAB

I picked up this Assmann hollowbak PAB this weekend.As far as I can tell it's agood one.The only question I have is,did Assmann crimp there hinge and catches?All the ones I have seen,in person and on the forums,have been soldered.I also looked on Mike Pinkus's site and couldn't find a mention of this style of attachment.

What is it supposed to be ..a cast or a stamped badge..?

I only know them stamped in this type.
If stamped isn't it rather thick in places...??
Just a observation and maybe the angle of the pics...

Without casting dispertions, one way or the other, and looking solely from an engineers point of view:

The edges/lips appear to be concurrent with a casting manufacture. The abscence of a regular shear cut (or if you will the variable lip line) lead me to this conclusion.

I'm afraid I will also have to be a skeptic here.

It makes NO sense at all to attached the hinge and catch that way.
Whether that badge is buntmetal or zinc...with those plates on the hinge and catch you don't need the additional "flaps" to hold it in. A lot of unnecessary additional work. Methinks a repair.

Here is my piece, the finish rates about 90 percent, this piece has a brass base that has been plated. I believe it to be stamped, but when I look at it, if it is stamped it is a thick stamping, ie the metal planchet that it was stamped from is thick...I think the crimping method was adopted because it was too time consuming to solder the hinge and the catch on, John
