Army flak - opinions appreciated

Stay away, Peter, 100% fake. Actually this is the most encountered fake of Army Flak Badges. Comes in many finishes and different stages of artificial aging.

Frank, can you point out the details of the badge that lead you to state that it is a fake? This one would fool me because I don't know alot about Heer Artillery badges. What should one look for in original pieces?

Here we go again on the Heer flak badge.

I agree with Frank this is a much encountered fake. Altough detailing on these badges might look acceptable they always have the same problem. The eagles head most of the time looks more like a lizard, and always lacks detailing. Don't believe that this is the result of wear.

If your looking for an original Heer Flak, always start with a close up of the eagles head. If this shows good detail and looks like an eagle your halfway there. Personaly I still have to find the first copie of a Heer Flak badge that got this right. On the other hand I never saw an original without an acceptable eagle.

In the case of the Army Flak Badge there is no rule or thing to look for that all orginals should have and that fakes don´t have. Apart from the things applying to every Third Reich Badge. Original badges from different known makers are different.
But it is easy to know which ones you definitely do not want to get and this is one of them.

Hi Frank and all:

This is the only Heer Artillery Badge that I have. I got it on ebay a year or so ago. Right off I was happy because I got it very cheap. My feeling is that is good. However, since I don't know these badges I look and wonder. The thing I like is the overall detail. What I don't like is that it is thin (2.63 mm at the eagles upper wing) and light, but not bendable. What's your opinion? If you think it's good, do you have any maker in mind?

Dear David,

That is a type of Army Flak badge I know. It also exists with a massive, filled in reverse and a seperately attached catch. Due to the specific pin, it can be speculated that the maker of this one is L/21, Foerster & Barth.

IMO, your badge is original.
