          RE: The Box...

Hi Marcus, no markings on the box at all... no nice FLL stamp like the inner lid of yours! Still nice though!

              Dear Stogie,

That is the nicest bronze finish I have ever seen on a FLL IAB, congratulations!

It is kind of a generic war badge carton, but still it is interesting that John (militarybuyer) sold an FLL some time ago in the very same carton.

Rick is your box an all in one like mine, the picture Frank posted or does it have a detachable lid.

Heres the maker mark on the underside of the lid, as you guys have seen more boxes than I've had hot dinners, have you encountered many marker marked cardboard boxes, IAB's or otherwise ?

                Kind regards,

                Marcus

                  Hi Rick,

                  Wondefull early FLL.

These FLL's have one of the better finishes applied to IAB's and if kept in there original box for the last 60 years I can only imagin how it must look in reality. Probably even better than what your pictures already show.

                    Dear Philippe,

Why do you guess it is an early one? No matter how nice the finish still is, I would have thought the type of FLL IAB with the more complicated hinge and the stamped logo is the earlier type.

                      Just checking in...

Hi guys, thanks! Frank, I'll bet our two are twins! Marcus, this box is like yours, "all in one", hinged on the lid/base end... <p>
Frank, I was thinking early version because of:
                      A) Tombak
                      B) Space between swaz & rifle
                      C) Type/placement of maker mark
                      Thoughts????

                        Dear Rick,

I do not own that boxed FLL I posted above. It was sold by John on the e-stand some time ago.

Sorry about that early/late question, Philippe and Stogie. I did not see the space between swaz and rifle when looking at the badge for the first time.
Now that I realize it is made of Tombak it is also clear to me why it still looks so beautiful!

                        Cheers, Frank

Well...I don't own it either, but would have to question the "tombak" issue:

                          1) IF it were tombak, then why the plated catch? Totally unnecessary on tombak badges.(Is it plated? Could be wrong but it looks like it)

                          2) IF FLL was already using "plated catches", why switch to the other type when it changed to zinc? Why not just continue to use them?

                          3) IF it already had the space between the Swaz and rifle as does 99% of all the other IAB's......WHY eliminate it when it went to zinc?

These are just some questions I have....but ONLY the owner of the badge can say for sure if it is zinc or tombak.

I believed the Tombak comment from Rick once I looked at the badge sold by John/militarybuyer in my files. It seems these badges do NOT have a catchplate as I too first thought, it is rather a solder-blob that has the apperance of a catchplate. It is obvious in the pics of the badge John sold:
