Well there is an easy test to see if it is bakelite simply rub it with you finger until it warms up nicely and then take a good whiff. If you smell formaldehyde then it is bakelite.

My suspicion is that it is some sort of movie or other stage prop.

The reverse has -- well, I'm not quite sure what's stuck to it. I could easily pull it off and see if there are markings if anybody's interested.

Could it possibly be a child's toy version of the badge? There are many child size uniforms and helmets that exist.

                      Hi guys,

George, now that is quite interesting! By all means, pull the tape off.

Looks like a poor casting of an FLL CCC. Looks very soft and check out all the holes, on the edges and inside the central motif, like it was sewed or pinned onto something. The finish looks to be applied with a little bit of care, notice how it is NOT inside the central motif.

Can you give us some dimensions of this George?

                      Thanks

                      Tom
If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

                        About the......

......plastic CCC. It was originally in my possession, and I gave it to George so he could place it in his FAKES display, that he made for the local shows here in the Bay Area.

Thanks, George, for digging it out and posting it.

It is pretty close to full size, if I recall correctly. It was a gift to me about 1997, and I don't have any kind of provenance nor do I remember from whom or whence it came.

I always thought it to be the strangest copy of a badge I'd seen. My impression is that it is a movie/stage prop.

                        It belongs to George now.

A quick search in google came up with this, which is translated from swedish btw:

                              "A hydrocarbon with
chemical name Polystyrol produced in Troisdorf
in the name of "Trolitul." It is translucent as
                              the glass without being brittle.
Bending Strength 600 kg/cm2 and the impact resistance of 10-11
                              cmkg/cm2. Insulation resistance surpassed only
                              of amber."
