In my possession there is an example of Infanterie Sturmabzeichen in Bronze, made of some kind of plastic. I could not find any info in the net. I hope to find some more info here. I can provide pictures. Whoever is interested in pictures, please send me PM with email address.

Judging the pics i´d say same as the WB´s. Especially when looking how the pin took away a big chip out of the badge, that indicates to me that it´s brittle and chips easily.Regards

Well, its a first for me too. When we were talking about the plastic wound badges, a few came out of Stalingrad. It was my thought that soldiers trapped in that pocket may have went through the trouble of casting some of their badges from available materials, when no originals could be had due to the obvious supply problems during such epic battles of encirclement. This could certainly be the case with this IAB.
I have read many books on the Stalingrad encirclement, and there were for sure a lot more pressing problems to deal with (like cold, hunger, death, wounds, Russians, etc.). However, there were many periods of down time between battles and I can logically see how bored soldiers could try and pass the time by casting some awards that they could legitamately received, but were never awarded due to the encirclement. This is quite plausible in my mind.
Or, it could just be a very crude and old fake, but there are plenty of those made from cheap lead, so why plastic?
