Tom keep us updated on how the badge reacts through time..I did some silver coins with tarn X before, they looked newer then new after treatment-but once handeld the coins turned black from reaction to oils on finger tips...

Thanks for all the replies, I am very happy with the result. It doesn't appear to have removed any of the origininal finish, simply the tarnish. Hope that makes some people feel better on the cleaning issue

Like you said, Tom, how often do you find a group with so many rare makers in it? It's nothing short of amazing. The finish on your J PAB is awesome!

I loved the patina on the first pictures of the badge you posted...

...to me that natural 70 year old patina is absolutely priceless and while it can be artificially created (as coin dealers used to do to make "toned" coins by baking them in ovens etc before collectors caught on) knowing it came that way from the vet is something that would have been a keeper had I gotten the piece that way out of the woodwork...at any rate congrats on your find.

To me it just looks like one of the many other cleaned/treated/worked-on badges you see around on any given day but you have to be happy with it as the owner.

I can imagine the musty odor the piece had when first handled after being in storage for years having had many vet-pickups over the years...priceless.
