Hi Oli,

The reverse looks perfectly textbook, but the obverse looks a little odd, especially around the eagle and acorns. I am sure it is just the pictures and the clasp is fine, but can you take a closeup of the eagle and of the acorns?

Looks also to have been recently polished on the obverse.

Hallo Oli,

IMO, its an original clasp that has had a hard life. The obverse surface is really pock-marked, but doesn't look refinished to me. My thought is that it is either a ground dug example that has been cleaned up OR created with a very dirty obverse die. Since the reverse would easily be rusted if stored in bad conditions, my guess is that it was created with a dirty die. Do you see traces of the bronze finish INSIDE the pock marks?

i can see the diffenrent. imo its a hard carried and often cleaned claps.
