Staegemeir piece(ccc)...

Hi guys,



I surfed his site and was wondering about one of his pieces. Offered as a Gold CCC, I think it is a bronze one. The badge and the crimping of it looks to me like a good 1.1.1. Details are good, what bothers me is the lettering of an 1.3.2, with the "BERIIN" typical lettering, while the funny "u" in AGMuK varies and the needle is again from some other example.


Any thoughts about this one...?

Hi Daniel,

This particular CCC has been on his site for about a year now and as far as I can see it is an original (not a very good cast copy like most of his badges on his website). As I have said in the past, he does have some originals on his site from time to time and these are what he uses to make his reproductions from. I haven't seen a fake of this exact type yet, but I am sure he is working on it. What you need to do is save these questionable badges in a separate file and then keep an eye on his updates to see if he makes fakes of these rare originals.

As far as this particular CCC goes, its a good 1.1.1 IMO. It has the fluted pin of a 1.1.2 from the same maker, but can be chalked up to being a transitional piece before that certain AGMuK maker switched the reverse die to have the raised tabs for the backplate. Don't get thrown off by the lettering, it is perfectly textbook for a large font AGMuK 1.1 type CCC. I have seen several examples where parts of the lettering was misshapen or missing altogether (as is the case with the "L" in Berlin), and was a result of a clogged reverse die or a shift of the die right after it was punched out, nocking off some of the lettering IMO.

thank you for your answer. If you compare his pieces with the ones in your book it is pretty obvious, which ones are the fakes. I was just a little worried concerning the variations of this particular one. The obverse is clearly a 1.1.1, I just haven´t seen the faulty lettering and thought how can he create such a mixed up badge, with the correct obverse design. Thank you for clarifying that!
