Hi there the reverse says ground dug or fake to me,it's excessively pitted. If it was ground dug the obverse would be the same. It says fake to me. The makers mark is HA,Hermann Alrich. Regards Stewy

The reverse looks like a casting. If it was ground dug, then I would expect the front to have suffered some deterioration - it doesn't look like it has.

I agree that the surface of the badge is some what strange.
Weight and measurments will tell the tale about it IMO.

I have never seen a pitted reverse with such an amount of finish on top of that. This means it should have left the fabric like that? Not what I would expect from an Aurich. Makermark is very soft, details on the whole observe are soft. There is deffinitely something wrong with this badge.

Can you do an Aceton test on it? Maybe this is a reworked ground dug?
