    CCC silver help

    Hi Guys!
The previous post should be deleted as something went wrong. Ok! I need some support with this badge I just traded today. I still have chance to give it back. Is the hinge resoldered is my main problem. Also the pin is not matching with Toms book. In this condition what would be the price to pay if its authentic.

          Hi Tom,

just a few observations on this clasp:
IMO the hinge has not been re-solderes but the zincpest is striking harder in that area

The pin looks the same as the one in this thread:
          http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ghlight=RS+ccc

The only thing different is the hook, but that wouldn't really bother me.
It is definitely original to this badge.

I like what I see, but there are a lot of people with far more knowledge in this area, pherhaps they will chime in.

          Best regards,
          Ben

Hi there,i'm no CCC expert. But it looks like 1.15.2 in Toms book. Stewy

I agree that something isn't quite right IMO. Maybe this will be a learning experience if I'm wrong, but what is bothering me is the fact that the catch is that representative of a 1.15.1, but the slender banjo style pin is of the 1.15.2, not sure why this is. I think the hinge has been resoldered.

              Is the hingepin magnetic?

                hingepin

Yes the hingepin is the only magnetic thing as the baseplate is missing. I also checked the measures and they mach the RS 1.15.1. Cant say about weight as backplate is missing.

I can't see anything wrong on this "Rudolf Souval" - clasp.

                  Regards,

                  Peter

Chad you're right about the shape of the pin. I'll be honest i was going on the keyway for the catch plate. But in hindsight on 1.15.2 in Toms book on 1.15.2 the keyway may be obscured. But the pin's definately more fluted,as in 1.15.2. Regards Stewy.

                          Hi guys,

Been at the MAX all weekend and busy at work, sorry for coming in late on this thread.

IMO, this is a textbook 1.15.2, but with the earlier thick wire catch (typically found on the 1.15.1s). The defining feature of a 1.15.2 is the slender banjo style pin and these are almost always found with a round catchplate and flatwire catch. This piece simply used some of the thick wire catches used on Souvals earlier clasps. I have no problem with this since switching dies and crimping styles did not always correspond 100% with the switching of catches, pins and hinges.

The die characteristics and backplate crimping style for the 1.15.1 & 1.15.2s is always exactly the same, its just the hardware that differentiates the variants.

                          Tom
If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
