For me, I don't feel comfortable with the first one. It is hard to put a finger on it as in many areas it looks good, but there is something about the finish and texture I do not like.

Can you post a good side shot of the hinge please as the base of the hinge looks very thick (probably just the pic).

Also, can anybody post a solid Shuco design IAB with a round catch plate as I can't recall seeing one.

Hans, has seen plenty of SHuCo's, lets see what his thoughts are?

    cheers

On 1st badge seems strange to me to have a pin so short the catch has to be bent upwards after fixing to the badge. Stewy

The pins not short its just been soldered on a bit higher than normal which is why the catch has been bent over to meet the end of the pin.

Hi Stewy, I also noticed that, but as Richard pointed out that could be a fault in manufacturing where the hinge is soldered too high or the catch too low.

            cheers

What Richard says makes sense, but i'd have thought the catch would be attached to suit placing of the hinge. Stewy

Graeme, I have to agree. Something does not seem quite right with that first badge. I have no doubts about the marked badge but the unmarked is off.

As you mentioned the texture is off, the badge seems to be very grainy and I suspect it could be a high quality cast. If we had measurements on that badge it would certainly help.

Well, it is supposed to be an unmarked SHuCo 4 stem variant don't have the IAB book so I don't know if that variant is included.

I don't really feel great about the hinge on that one either, almost looks like it's not really folded sheet metal. Got to wait for some measurements before this one can be pronounced deaed though. I have seen a couple of SHuCo semi hollows that had a kind of grainy finish.........so it is possible the rough texture could be attributed to that. I don't like the edges of the badge though, they seem rough like their is excess material. A stamped badge does not tend to have this effect at least not to that extent due in large part to the shearing that occurs.

                      Hi Stewy

I am not sure which book you are talking about, but I would say don't take any book as the gospel.

If you are referring to infamsammlers book I am pretty sure it is missing many variants.

                      cheers

The finish on the first badge reminds me of the finish on this bad "egghead"
                        cheers
