                4 ss

The medal has got the stippling but not the thumb print present on all the originals from both Deschler and Petz&Lorenz. Also an example just like this one (from the same die) was featured on Detlev's fake gallery after one of the members here sent it in for COA.

                Hope that helps
                cheers

Agreed, stippling is too coarse & bubbly.

                      medal

i had 3 of these that were from a locial vet. i know for a fact they are all original. i had them discussed on here . Robin Lumsden even said they were original . one other from europe aslo said it is a p&l. didnt i see on here where some one show Detlevs had a oak leaf set you all said was a fake for sure?and i think a german cross he also had . i could be wrong but i seem to remember this a while back. so i tend to beleive what i was already told by others here on this site. we all make mistakes but i know where these came from.

I think it is the same like I had sent to Detlev and was found fake, because of missing fingerprint, and some kind of too sharp detail grade.

It is collector terminology for the swirling pattern of the stippling on original 3rd. & 4th. Grade SS-Service Awards which apparently resembles a fingerprint...conspicuous by its absence in this case.
This pattern was not a deliberate feature of the medal, but had more to do with human nature ie. when the engraver was tooling the original model for the award into the plaster, which would have been many times larger than the final product (it was then progressively reduced in size by a pantograph), it would be natural to work on a small area at a time. The swirling pattern would be a result of the natural pivotal wrist movement of the artist. The stippling on the award in question looks like it could have been chemically produced.
