      Hi guys,

Obverse looks VERY soft, not what I would expect from an early hollow GAB. The acorns caps in particular. I don't have my book handy, which type of GAB is this?

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

That was my concern also Tom. Dennis, see if you can get some oblique shots of the hinge also.

What they did tried here IMO , is copying a hollow steel Assman.

If you will compare it to an original there are many differences such as the material is self (the obviously new that they didn't have to use zink or tombak, but something else), the details, just look at the dotting on the wreath, it's just not there. It has a filled hole under the swas, which I have never encountered on an Assman, and last but not least, just look at that ugly head, and the soft edges... nothing for me.

If it's a fake, it's a very dangerous one! Well spotted Don!
                    Kind regards,
                    Giel

Dennis, thanks for the extra pics. Giel is correct. This is a fake combo- borrowing elements from several different styles/types of GABs. Please post it in the fakes gallery. I'd still like some obliques of the hinge.

                        Hi guys,

Dennis, I agree with Giel and Don that this one is a reproduction. Can you give us some dimensions and a weight? Is it magnetic?

                        Thanks Dennis

                          Hi guys,

I see your concerns about the soft details, but IMO this is a good Assmann GAB.
The lack of detail probably is a result of a worn out die.
I´m not a metallurgist, but I heard that steel is harder to work with than tombak or zinc.
This is also a logical explanation why Assmann stopped the production of steel GABs rather early and the badge shown here could be one of the last steel GABs made.

Regarding the single cut out below the swas, there are examples out there with
a single or a normal double cut out. Both accepted variants. I own a grounddug one with a single cut out.

Still it would be interesting to know whether the badge is magnetic or not and the dimensions.

The lack of dots on the wreath is a little strange but not impossible. The rest of the badge looks very good and cutouts under the swastika are not necessary on all Assmann steel GABs, I have seen with one, like this, with both and with no cutouts at all. I do not think this badge should be condemed to quickly.
                              Also, is it magnetic?
