There are alot of things I like about the PAB, it's just the state of the reverse that makes me wonder; my comment on the hinge is based on - the lack of a space between the mounting points and the pin. As for the rest of the rear - maybe time has taken it's toll on this PAB.

As you can guess, I'm still on the fence on this one

From the distant pics, both look fine to me.

Adam, scans would be good if you have them. You obviously have issues with these, so it might help us if you shared your concerns.

In these discussions it helps if members say what they feel is wrong, rather than just saying they do not want them in their collections. If a badge looks way off from the norm then it is fine to say "not for my collection", but both these look "textbook"

          regards

I see nothing wrong with either of them. If you remember back before scanners we used to ID items with photos like these. The reverse setups look good to me but I am always willing to learn.

Hey guys I will post scans later today.

              my concern are

              1. With the Iab the detail around the oaks is very bad when looked at under a magnifying glass, when compared to my other Iab's. Possibly this could be because of late war materials, but the seems un likely to me, given that the finish is still excellent. I would have expected a last ditch Iab to have faded. The actually finish looks very strange when it is in hand, you will see what I mean if I can get some disant scans.

              2. With the Pab, the area around the wheels caused me some concern. The back of the piece is pretty badly finished and the mm is very weakly struck into the piece, it is almost becoming no exsistent. The other all texture of the back feels strange to me. It is made of zinc however, but doesn't have any zinc pest.

I have always just bought with out doing research, which is bad of me I know. Now I have had time to learn more These justy jump out at me, hey I maybe way of the mark, but at least its something else I have learnt!.

              Regards Adam

Amen to that. a sloppy or worn reverse and MM mean nothing. This "W"mm looks well worn to me. The catch is spot on to the detail of the hooked catch. If those are fakes I will eat my boxer shorts. Adam, if you want to trade for the PAB thats fine with me.

I've been searching through my reference material and have found a Weidmann GAB on page 186 in Franks GAB book (it's a actually listed under Wernstein - but that was the information in 2005). The reverse of the GAB on page 186 is in a very similar condition to PAB here, also the setup is much the same, the maker mark is in much the same condition - probably stamped. This takes away any fears I have about the PAB - it gets the .

I also had a gab with the same set up and mark as the gab, it was much better quality than the pab.

Dion I would be happy to swap the two or trade, what you thinking?
