    PAB Maker Question

    Hello everyone:

I purchased the unmarked Silver PAB in the link below not too long ago, and I have since been unable to determine the maker. In studying various reference examples on the forum and elsewhere (for quite some time), I can only find one that comes close. It's the hollow Frank & Reif type which seems to be the best match. However, one feature that possibly doesn't exactly match is the base plate for the hinge. My badge seems to have a wider base plate with somewhat more pronounced corners than what I see on the Frank & Reifs I've seen so far. However again, maybe that difference I see is just some possible variation or maybe not much of a difference at all. Maybe that's just more of a difference I'm seeing in the photographs taken at various angles.

However, a more striking difference is with the catch. The catch on mine looks identical to the catches I've seen on both B.H. Mayer and Frank & Reif hollow examples I've seen. So, with these combinations and slight differences that I see, I'm confused. At best, it seems to be more of a combination of features from two makers. It also seems that these two companies possibly used parts (such as catches) that were identical. Since I've seen Frank & Reif hollow and semi-hollow examples using combinations of the hinge and catch assembly on mine and not completely so with B.H. Mayer, I'm only assuming that mine is Frank & Reif.

So, I'd really appreciate other opinions about who the maker of this PAB could be. Here's a link to the photos which are still on the website: (The photos can be magnified by placing the cursor on the photos and clicking once, as you likely know.)

Thanks in advance to all who may respond.
