        Dear David,

My guess is that the badge is an original. Here is what I imagine could have happened to the wreath: it looks as if the badge was dipped way too long (probably without supervision) in a silver dip bath. The acid dissolved some of the zinc surface, while the Buntmetall eagle got well "cleaned" (finish lost) but did not deteriorate in its form.

The pin set up is typical for zinc Assmanns, no problem with that.

        Cheers, Frank

          Hi David

Your badge looks like a typical mid-war made zinc Assmann. That said, however, it looks like someone has messed with it. The finish on the eagle does not look natural and does not match the rest of the badge. Obiviously its been altered IMO.

          Best regards
          Ken

Mine has what I believe to be the original finish. This one is sort of minty, with just a trace of wear.

Shown with its well used Para cousin.
