Do these lanyard badges usually have this type of pin and catch to attach to the lanyard?, or was this one converted for some reason to wear as a tank badge. Looks to have been done a long time ago. It came with a very early tunic I recently aquired.

That attachment was done after it was removed from the lanyard. I have a photo of one in wear I posted some time ago.
