    Army Flak Badge

    Dear collectors,

I just acquired this Heeres-Flakabzeichen, marked by Juncker. I am convinced of it being the real deal, but knowing that these are faked a lot, I would like to compare with some of yours. Mine is Buntmetall and does have a nice dark "BrĂ¼nierung"-finish.

    Cheers, Frank

Well, comments without pictures are also welcome, of course! You cannot assure a person too much that you also think this badge is the real thing, it never hurts.

      Hi Frank,

Here are scans, for comparison. Our badges look almost identical. The hallmark is stamped a bit higher on yours, but I think both are fine.

        Hi Mark,

Thank you for those pictures. Yours is in a lovely condition! Would you agree that the little less detail on mine (eagle´s breastfeathers, acorns, small wheels on gun) is due to wear?

          Frank,

The wear to your high-lites (well, the badges at least) seem to be in all the right places. Just for the heck of it, I'll weigh my badge tonite and post results tomorrow.

              Hallo JĂ¼rg,

Yes, it is the badge I bought from Carsten Baldes, the dealer you recommended. Thanks again.

It is interesting to see the catch construction variation on your Juncker. Thanks for posting that.

                Frank & Jurg-

                My badge above....specs:

                Height- 60,4mm Width- 44,9mm Weight- 29,5

I would say, for all intents and purposes, that our badges have the same dimensions. As for the weight difference, I would attribute that to the time (of the war) that the badges were made. The C hook is characteristic of an earlier manufacture, compared to the flat wire catch on the plate which is typical of a later manufacture. The base metal was most likely a different 'mix'.

                Regards,
                Mark

Thanks, Mark, for weighing your badge, I appreciate your efforts. I am sorry but I do not have the weight for mine, since I never much believed in trusting weight to determine if a badge is right. Almost no two badges of the same kind weigh the same.
It is great to learn things like the different catch being connected with an earlier or later production of this kind of badge.

                    Juncker in Zinc?

                    Hi Guys,
After looking at the posted badges, it made me wonder if my unmarked badge could actually be of Juncker manufacture. Although a later zinc badge, I noticed the similarity of the catch, and pin hinge assemblies. Although the photo is somewhat fuzzy, it has the same excellent detail exhibited in the previous posts. Just curious what everyone thinks.

                    Ignored Due To Invisibility.

                      Mark and Munich,

Could you please also give your measurement for the eagle width and hinge width. It would be quite interesting to compare.

                        Frank and Mark,

Your badges look similar, could you please post the weights and measurements for comparison?

Question about the serrated edge of Frank's badge. I have never seen a badge with a serrated edge like that (like a coin). Has anyone before?

                            Hi Yuri,

I have definitely seen this type of bevelling on the edge of a badge with associated serrations. I believe both to be features of hand-filing/finishing. On genuine Schwerin HSF Badges i'd say the effect is characteristic. I have a zinc Heer Flak badge (not one I'd attribute to Juncker) which also has strong file marks (serrations) on the edges (not bevelled from memory though). I think this feature is more of a good sign than bad.

                            Regards
