Can I get your opinion on this GAB?

I have this badge and I think it is Unknown Maker #8. Nevertheless, I am not 100% on it. The back is very flat. Weight is 33 Grams. Catch is open on right side. Any help?

    Dennis

        Hi Dennis,

I see what you mean. Would it be possible to post better and sharper pictures of the obverse?

It looks like the surface is really rough and undetailed, am I correct?

Though from the reverse it looks very convincing...
        Kind regards,
        Giel

          Hi Giel,
I hope this is better, with all of the shine on the surface its hard to get a clear picture.

            Hi Dennis

Bit of a strange badge IMO.

Obverse design is definitely more like unknown # 7. The central vein in the top right leaf is odd, has it moved from the centre or is it solid and been that way since it was made?

Details don't look too sharp and not too keen on the finish (the last pic looks like its been painted on)

You know it is not textbook by the lack of replies

If the badge is good, it might point to unknown # 7 and unknown # 8 being made by the same company and this badge is a transitional piece. Just speculation I might add.

            cheers
            Graeme

sorry Dennis cant find anything like it with my pics, I have two no 8 varients but neither resemble this one. To be honest I dont really like it. the main things that I dont like are the eagle, the top part of the bayonet and it also looks like it made of a soft metal, could be wrong as there are a lot of varients out there

I posted this because of those same reasons. This picture was taken in negative with an arrow to the odd wire shape on the badge.

I mentioned that in post # 6 Dennis asking you about it..

And the obverse design is not unknown # 8....you probably went for #8 due to the reverse set up.

Maybe there is a problem with the forum and you can't see my post ??

I did see your post of course. You are right I was looking at the back, mostly at the catch plate. I do see the top of the wings look most like Unknown Maker #7 in Frank’s book. Thanks for pointing it out. I have never seen one that look like it, but GABs are not my strong suit. I just don't know if its a legitimate pre-1945. The finish is very strong so it could have been redone at some point. I am not sure what it is. Thanks for the help with this one.
