Where is the hinge crimp? Has it been repaired or tampered with to present it as period repaired? The rivits don't look correct either.

Strange, I really like the obverse and reverse of the badge, but where is that hinge crimp? It looks like it is soldered right on the badge.

I would also like to see that small lip inside the catchcrimp which hold the catch, but I cant see it. IMO it is a good badge, but someone messed with it. Looking forwards to hear some opinions of the numbered badge guys!
                  Kind regards,
                  Giel

Still not sure about this one? As to the hinge tabs, I've a JFS para and the tabs on the hinge are just barely tacked on the wreath. Not sure if one could have been broken off of this one or not. This badge looks like its had a hard life.

This one appears to have been ground down around the hinge area. And prior to applying the finish no less. It had a hard life before it left the factory.....

Hard to be definitive with this one as it imo needs a hand examination to figure out what is going on - and I definitely agree that something is not right. It is not textbook.

I agree that it appears to be a genuine badge but messed with - hardware, rivets and finish all have question marks. The hinge/pin/catch assembly as such look OK. The absence of hinge crimps makes me strongly suspect a repair - as do the grind marks.

1 missing rivet I can live with but at least 2 of the 3 remaining rivets alos look messed with. The 2 little "dimples" adjacent to the lower left rivet are something I do not recall seeing on genuine badges (but is present on a certain type of repro). Also, the hole in the wreath for the missing rivet does not appear to line up with the rivet mound on the eagle. Gut feeling is the eagle has been off the wreath for whatever reason at some stage.

The finish on the reverse is patchy on the lower half but even on the upper half over the grind marks - I suspect a re-finish in the upper area but the pics aren't good enough to state anything definitively.

I don't have access to my examples for a while but I'm sure someone else could use theirs - I think a wreath measurement comparison would be useful in this case. One possibility is that fake and genuine components have been combined.

                        Regards
                        Mike

Already talked about it. With these pics I'm going to say fake. I'll combine the threads for others to learn.
