    Gwl Gab

    Hi guys,

Just received a GWL GAB. Not much finish left, but I like the cutouts for the wings and really like the products that GWL produced, so I figured it was a keeper. Once I got it though, few things are strange and I would like some opinions. Frank's GAB book only shows a sheetmetal hinge with oval shaped feet or small, cut feet and both are magnetic. My GWL has straight feet and all parts are non-magnetic. Frank states the pin and catch on GWLs are magnetic as well, yet the pin and catch on mine are both non-magnetic. Actualy, there is no magnetic parts on my GWL GAB. And finally, the round wire catch on rounded catchplate. Frank states in the book that an example like this exists, but I believe the catch on my example is a replacement. To the left of the catch, you can see a flat area that looks to be where original solder was flattened in the shape of the original unique GWL catch, as shown on Frank's page 83. IMO, this is a replaced catch and its possible the entire setup is a replacement as there is nothing magnetic.

So, what are your thoughts on this, replaced hardware?

    Thanks guys,

    Tom
