John, you can keep all your photographs in the same thread by hitting "reply" to your own thread and using "manage attachments". I have never heard of an IAB by them but I am not an IAB guy. They do produce an illusive pilots badge however. Good luck.

This looks like a good IAB. But it has the S&L design.

This OM marking has been found on other makers IABs also.

IMO these markings have probably been added post war.

Can you post really detailed pics of the maker mark?

Yes I agree with you on that it must be a post war add on, as I thought this badge was more of a S&L than one by OM.

Sorry, I can not get any close up photos of the maker as this was for sale on a web site and not in hand with me.

Hi Guys!
I just wanted to add my 2 cents to this thread. Jim and I bought a small grouping of “stuff” from a collector we have known for at least 25 years. In that time he has been 100% honest disclosing any detrimental information on anything he is selling. The grouping this badge came out of was a direct veteran purchase by him. I find it incredibly unlikely that this was altered post war.
I know at least one of you who responded and I do respect your opinions. In this case though I would respectfully disagree. I think by now many of you know me and know that I truly try to be the “perfect” dealer and always do what is right.

I like the badge and think the mm is authentic, if you look at the mm you see that the mark is pressed into the badge with some machinery using havy force, it had to be done during the making of the badge, should this be done postwar you should probably see a deformation of the badge and some damage on the front. just my opinion for what it's worth.

After having viewed the picture that Den put up I have changed my opinion. It does look like its been on the badge from day one to me. Congrats to the new owner on a very intresting IAB.

Threads like this certainly make the hobby interesting.

The better detailed pic of the mark certainly shows it as quite intricate (like the raised L/21 in a square), rather than the plain stamps (such as L/13).

Some guys feel that this style could be part of the reverse die, but for me, the fact this mark has been seen on different designed IABs makes it very unlikely, although not impossible.
If it is a stamping, It is also hard to explain why it is seen on several designs of IABs (unless all the makers of the IABs are connected in someway)

I think until we find out more info on OM the mistery remains.

Hello Graeme, as i wrote in GCA a stamp would have destroyed the finish of the badge. Therefore i think that this badge wasn't stamped.
