    and into the fray!!

heres my highly controversial piece. I did in fact show this a while back and the consensus was not overwhelming to say the least.
Anthony, I believe you were at that time not here so take a look at this one.

Note that it is the frosty silver type, the detail on the grass is there, even if its hard to see!
The hinge has the stripes on it and it is dished.
I already mentioned were it came from so I´m convinced that its good.

Not sure if the circled spot on Detlev's original is the die flaw or just a spot with a different wear from the rest of the badge, have a look at the pic below.

Anyway as already discussed in a past thread, in some badges judged original the flaw is not there.
Mathematically speaking a sufficient condition but not necessary for authenticity

        Cheers,
        Matteo

          Hi Guys !
Is the plate under hinge on the fake Aurich "incrimped" correct ?
It`s difficult to se from Detlev`s pics , should have had pics of hinge from a other angel .

            Dear Skip,

I respect your judgement on a badge in your possession, it is sometimes very hard to tell from a photo if it is RIGHT or WRONG. Have you compared it to a known original? if so how does it stand it?

The details of the badge are not very good and it seems to have a strange finish, but if it is late war and ground dug maybe this is why. I do see some aspects of it that are right, and I do see some that are missing, I could not really form a conclusion without seeing the badge and comparing it to another.

That being said, I have never seen another in this condition so it makes it hard.

At the moment I am 50-50 on it, here are some questions:

At the top of the right hand track are there three parts of an oakleaf showing?

Just below the middle of the four driving wheels on the right hand side as you look at the badge is there a four leaf flower?

Above the right headlight can you see the guard (fender) of the wheel track?

            Regards,

            Anthony

              Hi Anthony,

Here are close ups of those areas. I think that the flower is there but am not to sure what you mean with the other points.
I really don´t think these are fakes as I did see the lump of badges, although I did´nt directly see them getting dug up.
So who knows maybe I´m the victim of some very clever fakers!

What is the rarest maker of PAB.

                  Merdock,
Don't know if it's the rarest maker, but I've been trying for a long time to find one of the flat-backed ones marked 43 and FLL for Friedrich Linden of Ludenschied.

In my experience, HA PABs and those by AS in triangle (Scholze or Schwerdt) are perhaps the most common marked ones.

                    Hi Skip,

I do see the flower but the three parts of the oakleaf are missing. As I said before the badge looks good so now 75% the other 25% would be to see it in the hand which you have done, so final verdict is OK.

                    Regards,

                    Anthony

May as well throw in a pic of mine - it seems to have the die flaw as discussed previously. It is now the only silver PAB in my collection after stupidly selling off my almost mint Wernstein silver PAB a few years ago. The detail is a hell of a lot better than this pic but I can't seem to get it to show up - also the reverse of it is as smooth as can be.
