    My First General Assault Badge!

I got my first GAB today. A zinc, injection-molded Assman, definately worn. While it is really nothing special, it is an Assman!

This will go nicely with my Assman solid IAB, my FLL silver PAB flatback, and my unmarked zinc one-piece Luftwaffe GCB. My goal is to start out with (1) of each of the most common badges, and work my way up in condition (although I won't pass up a nice duplicate- at the right price .

I can't believe how much information I have picked up on this terrific website! You guys have all been a huge help to me.

I welcome any comments or observations,
    John

    Hi John,

My only comment would be "nice honest original Assmann GAB".

But that you probably figured out by yourself after studying the available information at this forum.

      Hi John,

although very worn, it is a nice badge with quite a lot of character (I have one Assmann dia cast GAB similar to yours, just a bit better, and I like it a lot)

Your project of starting with one badge per type is good, but then you will start to look for different manufacturer for the same bagde

      Cheers,
      Matteo

        Hi John,

do not despair! Just keep collecting steadily one badge at a time and before you know it you´ll have a nice collection.
When your finished with that you have the bug and start collecting variations. Believe me, this is a dangerous hobby

your badge is just fine, what you believe to be wear, or zinc pest, is in fact a die flaw.

I have observed many examples of this badge, there are, I believe, 3 types:

        1: Decently silver plated
2: Just plain "fein zink" but still gute quality
3: Last ditch "kriegs" pot metal.

The number on the back is not the manufacturing year, it is the die number.
What you believe to be a wear, is a die flaw that is only present on the badges made of pot metal. All examples of this 3rd type that I heve seen have displayed this feature.

                  Wow!

Thanks for all the affirmations guys! I was kind of worried at first because I got it from Jamie Cross (some here do not like him at all), but I am glad to know it is genuine.

While provenance can be very important, I think any badge/item should be able to stand on it's own.

Skip: Your mold #2 potmetal is a virtual identical twin to mine! All those spots that you highlighted on yours are also on mine; I mis-took them for carelessness or field-use during the life of this badge.
