To repair or not?

I received a nice G.A.B. in the mail the other day, I bought it knowing that the pin had been repaired. when I opened the package I found that the clasp had re broken(had been glued at one point. my question is should I repair it or leave it as is?.

If it has already been repaired once, then I would re-repair it. The initial damage and repair has already been done, so you might as well make the badge a little nicer.

Here's an IAB I got off of Ebay. The pictures were small and he didn't advertise
that the catch was damaged...but this is what I got:



So I took it apart and cleaned it up:



Then I used epoxy to put the catch back in place. I think it came out pretty good.

But what is epoxy? I have a CCC and the catch keeps on popping out, i might be able to use this

I used a brand called "Loctite"..but there are others that are just as good that you can buy at a good hardware store. You get two tubes (one is the catalyst) and mix them together. It dries very hard within 90 minutes.

Ken, do not take your badge to a jeweler because in order to weld it, he will have to heat the badge up to 1000 degrees. It will turn the color of the badge to dark-gray or even black; or most likely it will permanently damage the finish.
Then he will polish the badge.. Oh, man, just don’t do it.

Just return it to the seller.
Usually, a good dealer will refund your money for
"damage" item during the delivery (even if it was repaired).

Just super glue it back together and be done with it. You will never be able to tell.

I removed a monstrosity of a soldered catch repair (someone used a packing staple as a catch..ugh!) with a high temp mini torch and although the repair solder and the staple tumbled away, it didnt affect the factory solder at all. This badge was HOT as well. When I was done, you couldnt touch it anywhere, and it didnt disturb the finish at all. Not even a scorch mark.

EH !!!! guys,

we are not talking about welding here, more like soldering.
I have had a few badges repaired by a friend of mine whi is an electrician, he does it with soft solder and is very careful, they all came out just fine and not damaged at all. WE have all seen the wartime repaired badges as well, hey just dabbed on a lump of solder and pushed the hook into it, these badges did´nt melt away either.
That said I would, as an amature, go for super glueing it back togeather, although you won´t get such a good job done as Lorenzo ´cos his is sitting in a little hollow.
