I have a box full of Heer/Luft Long service medals, that I got, over the years, from my advertising. Without exception, every one, in each grade, is attractive to a magnet. Not very scientific, but certainly telling!

I wouldn't rely on the basemetal as a pointer of originality but more on the design, finnish and quality. Credible buntmetall (unmagnetic) pieces is around and have also been found on credible medalbars! The producers used whatever metal that was available.Originally posted by Bob Hritz View Post

Guys, nor I would mind a nice non-magnetic cross. The first cross is odd though when looking at angles. A cross pictured on a flat suface wouldn't feature the rims (sides), as can be seen on Kenneth's cross. If you look at the enclosed image, you need to be looking down from the left in order to see the rim on the upper part of the left cross arm and the left side of the lower arm. Thus the other marked rims wouldn't appear, unless someone has a good explaination

I think it's just the angle of the picture but it's hard to tell because it is only a picture. Relics should take check the cross out and see if it's the pic or the actual cross. Maybe some new pics would help. I still like it though.

Army 25-year Service Cross
When I asked a German dealer two weeks ago what he thought about Army 25-yr Service Crosses being made in Buntmetal as opposed to Iron, he stated that they were to be found in both materials but thought that the iron versions could have been the awarded type and Buntmetal the private purchase type.
