      Gold GAB

      Hello,

Here's gold, hollow GAB I acquired several years ago. Was it a General officer's? Can anyone surmise which firm had manufactured it? What its range of value?

      Thank you,

      Christopher

In my opinion, it is a GAB with either a) nicotine staining, or b) some strange sort of lacqueur or finish that has yellowed over time.

Nfs. It came from a vet (an American officer) who was a prosecutor at Nuremburg. It's quite genuine.

Perhaps Mr. Craig Gottlieb would care to elaborate on his opinion?

On second thought, it doesn't look like nicotine after a closer look. Maybe the lacqueur theory makes more sense?

              Lacquer? That's silly.

                Hello there DAK......

......So you seem to think the yellowing of the laquer, applied as a finish, to these silver grade GAB's is silly?

                Au contrere.

I happened to own a silver IAB that had the same goldish appearance. I can assure you that I wasn't in possession of a gold IAB.

No such golden award, either GAB or IAB, was ever issued to be worn during the 3 Reich.

                  Gold GAB

Very interesting, but this one is GOLD - and not goldish. Its larger than any other silver GAB I've seen and the gold has a nice, old patina. I've seen photos of German Generals with an Award like this.

                    Hi Christopher......

......If, perhaps, you could share a photo of a gold GAB in wear, here on the forum, I, among many others, would enjoy seeing such a photo.

                      Hello,

OK, I'll dig one up. Please grant me some time to do the research as I have another project someone's asked me to help them with at present.

I'd like to see that. I've never heard of a gold GAB

                            Christopher,

Gold, or bronze GAB's NEVER existed.

The fact that yours is gold is probably because of the combination of discoloration of the finish, the wear and the basecoating that becomes visible.

I've seen many others like these which show the same patina build up, mine included.

A very worn and original Juncker GAB, but not a gold one, believe me
                            Kind regards,
                            Giel

                              Gold GAB

                              Hello,

I do believe you guys. But this one looked so good! Infact, I kept it as a treasure.

I just did a "paint test" (scrape a little off the reverse) and you're right. The "gold" paint scrapped right off. Underneath is a metal GAB with a completely worn finish. SCHUCKS!

                              Nevermind.

                              C.
