. Bubbling, however, cannot be faked.

Hi Mark are you 100% sure of this , personally i tend to disagree with the statement and believe there are certain methods that produce bubbling i know of One in particular that i will not share. All the best

      Hi guys,

I am fairly certain it is zink, I see several places on the obverse where the finish is worn away to dark grey. Also, the catchplate points to zink as well.

I don't like the weak detailing at the wreathband at the bottom, see my circles on the attached pic. Same thing with the eagle, looks like casting cavities. I also don't like how the catchplate can be seen from the obverse, it should have been trimmed down like Mark's is.

As far as the finish goes, the finish on PABs, IABs and GABs was usually a wash type finish, that doesn't bubble it just fades away. The finish on these would have been a gold plating, which does bubble as it is a more cohesive finish than a wash-type finish. The lack of bubbles on this example is also problematic for me on this example.

Mike, can you take a shot of the catch so we can clearly see its shape and configuration?

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

I'm not 100% sure of anything. But until I see a convincing example, I will stick to my beliefs.
