    IAB Silver purchasing advice

Looking for some pieces to get me started really, and figured that some of the more common awards might be a nice place to start. Plus I don't want to break the bank (Bank is being saved for a nice U-Boat badge).

Any opinions on this piece from Detlev?

Description says that the badge is slightly vaulted. Will this have done by the owner himself or were they issued thus? Does this detract from the piece or is it immaterial?

Also is the price of £75,00 reasonable?

From having read the forum I'm guessing that this particular unmarked badge would be from an unknown maker. Also the catch opens to the left which I gather is not usual? (I'm Probably dead wrong here)

I do like the look of the badge but then I'm looking at it with newbie eyes, and at this stage would appreciate a little advice from the experts on the board before parting with any cash.

    Apologise for all the questions..

    Many Thanks .... Sid

    Welcome

    Hello Sid,

Welcome to WAF. No need for an apology. We are all Heer (pun intended) to help each other.

To give you a couple answers...most catches do open to the right but there are authentic awards that go left as well. Some awards were factory vaulted and some flat and later hand vaulted by the recipient. I always use a loop to check for fractures on any item I think may have been vaulted by hand.

Other than that I will say no more as IAB are not my area but I did want to take the opportunity to welcome you to WAF.

    Regards,
    Stu

      Thanks for the welcome Stu.

So much to learn! These forums seem like an excellent place to start though. Plenty of knowledgable people around it would seem. Appreciate the info.

      Cheers .... Sid

Hissing Sid - "are you innocent"?

The IAB is absolutely fine. The price is a dealer price - which is OK.

My advice to you would be to have a look on the e-stand, quite a lot of IAB's come up fore sale.

        Welcome to the forum.

        Cheers,

        Mike

Heh, I didn't hang around for the end of the trial Mike, and left that rather 'sticky' situation in great haste.

As for stealing the Hat and Overcoat during my departure? Lies I tell you.... ALL LIES!!

Many thanks for the advice and the welcome, will do some research.

Cheers .... Sid (Innocent mind you).

The evidence for the overcoat is pretty well damning I bet you've still got it

              Hi Sid,
First off, welcome to the forum. Secondly, I agree with Mike in that our E-stand would be a good place to start.

Keeping my eye out on E-stand and doing plenty of reading.

                Thanks....
