    Hi Johannes......

......First, just for clarification, you have a relic GAB(allgemeinesturmabzeichen) with zinc as the bae metal.

These badges were never made, or awarded, in bronze or gold. Only silver badges were bestowed. The silvering on some badges has been observed to turn towards a yellowish gold color after some time.

        Hello,

Bruce is correct in the statement that this is a relic example with loss of silver finish after the years.

          Hi Guys,

Here's a bronze one but its probably a production fault.

It is a lot more bronze in colour than it looks like in the photo.

          Regards...

              Hello there,

Would the bronze color be somewhat of a primer that Assman used prior to the silver finish being applied?

Dunno Bill. I have seen photos of an Assmann IAB in Bronze and the colours are very similar - I just wish I could put this Assmann GAB next to a bronze Assmann IAB for comparison in the hand.

The finish on the GAB for all purposes is a genuine bronze finish - as I say, it looks much more bronze than the photo suggests.

I think someone made a mistake at the factory or possibly it could be a 'subdued finish' batch but more probably the former.

It is an oddity and in quite nice condition - I love it.

                Regards ...

Dont know if i agree on tbne bronze theory.Ive had plenty of silver laqeured finished items turn this colour.
Mine have turned this due to chemical breakdown of the finish used.

But hey ,I havent got this example in hand.

I thought of this too and it's a quite valid statement - also, it could have been exposed to something that changed it's colour too.

But, saying all this is the colour still looks very much like an bronze Assmann IAB which would have been created as a bronze badge.

                      Regards ...

I wonder if its some remaining underfinish that some makers used to help the top coat adhere to the zink, showing because the top silver coat has done the "disappear" trick we see with a lot of Zinkers.

Looking closely at the photos,im still inclined to think its done that"silver laqeur gone goldy colour with age thing"

Is there any chance the Assmann IAB ,if having an identical finish used, hasnt done the same thing and thats why it looks bronze?

Anyway, your GAB is a nice badge.
