    RK GAB for review

    Hello All,
Could you please take a look at this GAB and tell me what you think. Everything looks good to me, but I am a bit concerned about some of the rough edges around the cutouts on the reverse. Is this just something that occurred in the casting process? I looked in the fakes gallery but couldn't find any unnumbered RK GAB fakes. I'm also in transit now so I don't have Frank's book handy to look at.
    Thank you,
    Dale

Last photo. See the rough edges I'm referring to.

Must be a Friday afternoon badge. Other than a rough edge or two it looks ok to me.

Thanks Don. I like that expression "Friday afternoon badge." Or a maybe a Saturday morning hangover badge!

This is the 'so called' RK with the ball above the bayonet-I think these badges need study-does anybody have these from a older collection..I believe these are new badges that seem to be popping up-please prove me wrong as I have one of these types of badges also...

                        Dale,

When you get back home, take a good study of type B RK GAB on page 120 in Frank's book.

                          Here's mine for comparison:

Isn't the ball a strange color or just some other material?

The ball hinge and hook are both brass w/o any silver wash on them. Interestingly, the GAB I have on the e-stand now has a hook made of brass. It was finished with a silver coating, and the only way I could tell it was brass is when the hook broke off. I'm not sure if the ball hinge on it is brass or not.

The other differnce on this GAB from the other GAB on the e-stand and I think from the one you show above is that the ball hinge is slightly larger and the brass plate it sits on is crimped in on only two sides instead of all four sides.

                              Dale,

Your pin looks to be made of steel, slightly rusted. Frank mentions the hinge, pin and catch should be made of brass.

Are you back to where you can look at his book yet?

                              Robert
